Last July 21, 2016, the Local Government Unit of Canaman and Canaman Federation of Differently Abled Person Inc. joined the nation in the celebration of Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with the theme “Karapatan ng Maykapansanan Isakatuparan… Now Na!” More than 100 people participated in the event coming from the different Barangay Association of Differently Abled Persons (BADAP) Officers of 24 barangays, Special Education Learners of Canaman Central School and LGU Employees.
The event was started by conducting a Walk for your Rights activity from Municipal Hall going to Dinaga Proper. Slogans indicating their rights were display and parade as part of their advocacy. A forum on the rights of persons with disabilities based on national laws and international mandates were conducted after the parade. Ms. Margie D. Valle, SPED Teacher, resource person during the event discussed and strengthened the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons. She highlighted the rights and privileges of disabled persons on employment, education, health, accessibility, and transportation.
“The LGU of Canaman will continue to support the PWD Sector to respond on their needs and enjoy their rights”, Hon. Henry P. Ragodon, Municipal Mayor assured the members during his message. Various programs and projects for the pwd sectors are aligned for them especially 1% of the LGU IRA are allotted for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Also, present in the event is Hon. Sabas P. Chica, Municipal Councilor, and Committee on Social Welfare where he inspired the PWD members with his message that all people have their weakness and disabilities. Thus, they should not separate themselves and it should not be a hindrance for the development of all.
At the moment, the LGU of Canaman through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ms. Francia M. Arcayera is on the process of finalization of documents for BUB Project, provision of assistive device and auxiliary services where 13 members will benefit from it.
