Preserving life, preventing further injury, alleviating suffering, and providing immediate care are the aims of Firstaid and Basic Life Support. Last June 14-16, 2016, Local Government Unit of Canaman together with Philippine Red Cross Camarines Sur Chapter, facilitated the 3-Day Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support Training of 50 Rural Health Unit personnel and 11 MDRRMC employees.
The above-mentioned training was started by a morning praise given by Ms. Karla Angela B. Laguardia, a Registered Nurse under Nurse Deployment Project of DOH, and followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem lead by Ms. Jean A. Divinaflor, a Registered Rural Health Midwife. A welcome message was given by the Municipal Health Office Head, Dr. Salvador V. Betito Jr. followed by Hon. Emmanuel S. Requejo, Municipal Mayor.
Routine discussion on the importance of First aid and Basic Life Support was provided by Mr. Don Cordez of Philippine Red Cross, on the start of the 3-Day training. Different topics such as Bandaging, Splinting, Cardiovascular Diseases, Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), Ischemic Attack, Triaging and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Rescue Breathing for Adult and Pediatric patients demonstration with returned demo was done on the afternoon of the second day.
Written examination and practical examination were given on the last day of training. First aid and Basic Life support providers’ certificates and identification cards were awarded to those who passed and completed both written and practical examinations.
Indeed, it was a successful event with the aim to equip the LGU personnel with knowledge and skills and to capacitate them in responding effectively to calamities and other health and non-health related emergencies.
